I
diversi approcci alla logica quantistica: due classificazioni e loro interpretazione

From the first proposal
of a non classical logic for Quantum Mechanics (QM) by Birkhoff and von
Neumann in 1936, many efforts followed in order to clarify in which sense
Quantum Logic (QL) is different from classical logic. Birkhoff and von
Neumann's distinction between classical logic and QL concerned the failure
of distributive law. By following this suggestion, QL researchers have
undertaken very different directions of search, determining that van Fraassen
has called the "labyrinth of the quantum logics". In the eighties
these works have been classified by Mittelstaedt and Holdsworth-Hooker.
The analysis of these two classifications shows that this field of search
is wide and complex owing to the great variety of these approaches and
the high level of formalism with respect to the poor knowledge of the
very foundations of a physical theory. From this analysis emerges a conclusion
in terms of relationship between physical theory and logic; the studies
till now produced have followed two main directions of search: in the
former direction, by following Birkhoff and von Neumann, authors start
from mathematics -that is considered as representative of the whole physical
theory- to draw logic as algebraic structures; on the contrary, in the
latter direction, that is typical of "operational" approaches,
authors start from logic -that is conceived as language- in order to define
theory's physical operations and mathematics' primitive concepts. Few
authors dealt with the relationship between logic and theory's experimental
part, and underlined whether logic is empirical or not; most QL researchers
instead neglected the relationship of logic with theory's principles.
To recognize this missed relationship in the historical studies about
QL is useful to define in a more rigorous way the problem of which is
the real logic of QM. A. Venezia:
